Annual Reports
Dear Friends,
In four years Haiti Nursing Foundation has grown from an idea into a purpose-driven organization. To our many donors and friends, we give thanks for your part in making an extraordinary vision a reality.
A dedicated Board of Directors supports our mission in myriad ways, testimony to a vision sustained by action. A full-time Executive Director hired in 2007 helps ensure development of a solid infrastructure and vibrant donor base. An array of events held each year creates new connections, expanding awareness of Haiti’s only 4-year baccalaureate nursing program, the FSIL School of Nursing in Léogâne (Faculté des Sciences Infirmières de l’Université Episcopale d’Haïti).
On January 10, 2009 this remarkable dream reached a culmination, as the first class of Haitian nursing students graduated with BSN degrees. It was achieved through the work of an inspired dean and thirteen dedicated students, supported by faculty in Haiti and the U.S., and many loyal donors. It is already clear that these young Haitians will provide vital services addressing their country’s health care needs. They are emerging as leaders, ready to serve as the agents for change the founders envisioned.
Today Haiti Nursing Foundation’s mission is served chiefly by lending support to the FSIL School of Nursing. Yet our purpose extends beyond the walls of FSIL. As these students minister to hundreds of storm victims, assume leadership roles in their communities, and pursue further knowledge, they give us a view into the future of health care in Haiti.
As Dean Hilda Alcindor often reminds them, “Nous sommes la différence.” We are the difference. They only need our support to have this opportunity.
With our best wishes and heartfelt thanks,
Rosemarie Rowney, President & Marcia Lane, Executive Director
